Vacheron Constantin Overseas Strap Guide: Rubber, Leather and Steel

Vacheron Constantin Overseas with an orange rubber strap

The right Overseas strap comes down to one question: does your watch have the quick-change (click) system? The third-generation Overseas from 2016 on (for example the 4500V, 5500V and 7900V) has it, so you order our 24 mm × 7 mm rubber strap, which comes with the Quick Switch Metal Inserts and works with your original deployant clasp. Older models without the system, such as the 47040 and 49150, take our 25 mm × 8.5 mm non-click rubber strap. To check, look at the underside of your strap where it meets the case: a small release button means click.

Click or non-click: which strap to order

The references in the first row are the ones our 24 mm product listing names. For older watches we only give examples that reputable sources confirm have no quick-change system.

Not on the list, or not sure? Check the underside of the strap for the release button, measure the gap between the lugs, or send us your reference before you order. The steel strap is sold by size (24 mm × 7, 8 or 8.5 mm), so confirm that option with us too.

The click system and the 25 mm rubber

Since 2016 the Overseas changes straps with a tool-free quick-change "click" system. Earlier Overseas watches use ordinary spring bars. Our straps come in both versions:

  • 24 mm × 7 mm rubber: for click models; comes with the Quick Switch Metal Inserts.
  • 25 mm × 8.5 mm rubber: for Overseas without the click system. The listing says it is not compatible with click models. Measure the gap between your lugs first.
  • Leather: choose "With Click System? Yes" for a click model, "No" for an older one.
  • Steel: the same option, plus width and thickness.

Rubber, leather or steel

  • Rubber is the summer and holiday strap, and the one most owners buy first. Black and navy blue are the quiet choices; navy blue rubber is a natural match for the blue dial. Orange, white and brown are also in the $115 range, and red, green, bordeaux and light blue sit in a $225 range. The green rubber strap notes an 18 mm width at the buckle. Lifetime warranty on the rubber.
  • Leather turns the Overseas into a dress watch. The brown leather strap is the warmest look; black and blue are also available. 1-year warranty.
  • Steel gives you a second bracelet look in silver or rose gold. The silver steel strap starts at $99. 1-year warranty.

How to change the strap

Put the watch face down on a soft cloth. On a click model, press the release on the underside of the strap or bracelet and pull it away from the case, then click the new strap in until it locks. On a watch without the system, push the spring bar out with a fine tool. Move your deployant clasp across last. Rubber cleans with water and mild soap; see how to clean a rubber strap.

FAQ

Which rubber strap fits my Overseas?

It depends on whether your watch has the quick-change (click) system. Overseas models from 2016 on, such as the 4500V, 5500V and 7900V, have it: order the 24 mm × 7 mm rubber strap. Older models without it, such as the 47040 and 49150, take our 25 mm × 8.5 mm non-click rubber strap.

Can I keep my Vacheron Constantin deployant clasp?

Yes. The 24 mm rubber straps and the leather straps work with the original clasp. Choose "No Buckle" on the product page if you want to reuse it.

How do I know if my Overseas has the click system?

Take the strap or bracelet off the wrist and look at the underside where it meets the case. A click model has a small release button there. If you only see a plain spring bar between the lugs, your watch has no click system. Still unsure? Send us your reference before ordering.

What warranty do the straps have?

Rubber straps have a lifetime warranty on the rubber. Leather and steel straps have a 1-year warranty.
